I keep reading arguments about whether or not Jesus would wear a mask or carry an American flag. There is no way that we can speak for Christ. However, the discussion does bring up a valid point – we should be striving to live more like Christ. How can we do that?
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35
What can we take away from this scripture?
First, Christ commands us to love one another. Love is a verb. It is something that we do. An emotion that we demonstrate with our actions. It is revealed in how we treat others.
Second, we are to love others the way Christ loves us. Each day that we walk this earth, God gives us opportunities to show His love. He places people in our paths who may be difficult to love, people who may disagree with our opinions, people who may seem to not even want to be loved. Every set of eyes that you look into today belong to someone God created and someone God loves. Christ died for them just like He died for you. Are you showing that same Christ-like love to those you find difficult to love?
Third, the world will know we are His followers by our love. Does the world see love in your words and actions? Can they see that you are a follower of Christ by the way that you treat others? If you were taken to court, would there be enough evidence to convict you of loving others the way Christ loves?
Our world is hurting. There is so much hate and pain everywhere we look.
How can you show Christ’s love to those around you today?
