Did you know that you are treasured by God? You are! The whole world belongs to the Lord, and He treasures you! He created everything just by speaking the words, and you are what He loves most.
Have you ever treasured someone? Think about that person. Why did you treasure them? How did you act towards them? How did you feel about them in the depths of your heart? Multiply that times infinity and that is how God feels about you.
When God rescued the Israelites from Egypt, He brought them to the base of Mount Sinai. He had Moses deliver this message to them, “You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” (Exodus 19:4-5)
We already belong to God. He created us. We are His. But God says, we aren’t just His possession, we are His treasured possession.
He says the same thing to the Israelites again in Deuteronomy 7:6, “For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be His people, His treasured possession.”
I can hear you saying, “But God was talking to the Israelites. This doesn’t apply to me.” Oh yes, it does. Let me explain.
I know those are Old Testament passages; however, they speak to the character of God. Those passages show us the lengths He will go to in order to save His people. If you don’t know the full story, go back and read the first nineteen chapters of Exodus. Don’t misunderstand, the Israelites were far from perfect. Even after God rescued them from the oppressive rule of Pharaoh, they complained, they disobeyed, they made a golden calf to worship. Each time, they repented and came back to God. Like us today, they got caught up in life and couldn’t see the whole picture and would make mistakes. God forgave them every time.
Now, let’s take this idea to the New Testament. It’s a familiar passage so try to read it with fresh eyes.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
God loves you. He loves you so much, He gave His Son to be the ultimate sacrifice. His blood cleanses you from all sins and guarantees you an eternity in Heaven.
Exactly how important are you to God? I Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.”
You are chosen by Him. And we know from reading Exodus that He treasures those He chooses. Just like He did for the Israelites, God will go to great lengths to rescue you from whatever sin is holding you in bondage.
God has already chosen you. He treasures you. The question is, have you chosen Him?
